rospectively. However, for years, retrospective reports of pregnancy wantedness have been recognized to be subject to recall error or rationalization. As long as three decades ago, it was noted that respondents might not admit to what could be perceived as an inadequacy, or that they might change their attitude based on positive experiences with a child resulting from a pregnancy that, at conception, would have been considered unintended.3 The presumed result of these deficiencies in retrospective studies would be the underreporting of unintended pregnancies or the overreporting of intended ones.
